Sports are a lot of fun. However, many people do not realize how dangerous it can be to be an athlete. Many people are injured while playing a sport. There are several injuries that can cause extreme pain.

Concussion

A concussion results as a blow to the head. It can cause loss of consciousness, headaches, amnesia and disorientation. People who participate in boxing, football, wrestling and soccer are the most likely to suffer a concussion.

It typically takes two weeks to one month to heal from a concussion. It is important for athletes to take the time to heal before returning to a sport. Returning to the sport too soon can result in second-impact syndrome, which is a condition that occurs when a person receives a second concussion after healing from the first.

ACL Tear

The ACL is the anterior crucial ligament. It connects the knee to the leg bone. Suddenly
changing directions and hard impact are some of the things that can cause an ACL tear. ACL tears often require surgery. In some cases, ACL tears end an athlete’s career. If you think that you have suffered an ACL tear, then you will need to see a physician as soon as possible.

Dental Sports Injuries

People who play any type of sport are at risk for suffering a dental injury. One of the best things that you can do to prevent a dental injury is to wear a mouth guard. If you wear Invisalign, then you should take it off prior to wearing a sport. Knocked out teeth, loose teeth and broken teeth are some of the most common dental injuries.

Groin Pull

A groin pull can cause bruising and swelling on the inside of the thigh. It typically takes one or two weeks to heal from a groin pull. Check with your doctor before you return to the sport.

Back Injuries

Any type of sport can put a strain on your back. This repeated stress can cause your discs to shift out of place. Sudden impact can also result in a back injury. Warming up and stretching will help reduce your risk of a back injury.

Athletes put their health at risk every time that they play a sport. Back injuries, ACL tears, groin pulls, dental injuries and concussions are some of the most common injuries. Fortunately, most injuries heal with the proper care.
