The actor’s life must be so much fun. Just go to work at the studio whenever you feel like it, hang out with your friends at the beach and party with other actors all night long until you fall asleep at the Ritz-Carlton, which must be where the parties are held and where your private bungalow is always kept vacant just for you and your acting pals. Isn’t that the way Hollywood actors and actresses live?
Not according to any actors we’ve talked to. Bernice Breckon, the New Zealand actress who is currently living in Los Angeles, says that being a professional actress is a lot of hard work. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t like it either. On the contrary, she loves acting and find it to be one of the most rewarding things she has ever done in her life. Being an established actress in the film capital of the world, she is so busy, that she rarely gets to hang out with friends on the beach and if she went to parties every night she would be too tired to show up to work on time and she would have problems remembering her character’s lines.
The bungalow at the Ritz-Carlton does sound nice, she told us, but then she laughed and said that hardly anyone does that anymore because of the enormous expense involved. She told us that most successful actors are very passionate about their work and that they take their jobs and roles very seriously. When she was working on the feature-length motion picture Find Your Voice, she came totally prepared. She said that that was part of being a real actor, that is, doing your homework and being dependable. It also helps you get more jobs in the future because the director and producers always remember when people are competent and efficient because it saves them money.
She did the same thing when she was in Avatar and Fearless Games. Being professional, she said, is just one of the many tools that an actor has in his or her bag of tricks. Of course, there are others such as getting into character and not breaking character on the set, projecting genuine and believable feelings and speech and keeping up with the pace of the show, among many other things. Bernice has been in countless commercials, stage plays, short films and feature films and has a number of projects in development for 2017.
