Joint Entrance Examination is a common entrance examination for all of India for engineering and IIT admissions. The students are admitted into various IIT and engineering institutions all across the country based on the JEE rank. There are many who seek IIT JEE entrance exam coaching.
More than 2 lakh hopefuls showed up for JEE Advanced ‘17 this year at different examination centers around the country. The joint seat allocation community manages and regulates the admission of the candidates to IITs, Ism, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs and 20 other government funded technical institutions. Post Examination Analysis by Specialists:
According to the experts and the students, the overall question paper was moderate for the students though certain sections were a little challenging.
General Analysis
Paper 1
All in all, paper 1 was found to be simple and direct and seemed less demanding when compared with the papers of the previous year.
- 6 questions had just one correct option, 7 questions had multiple correct answers and 5 questions had integer type answers
- Chemistry was the most difficult in Paper 1
- The paper was allotted 183 marks. Wherein, 54 marks were from 18 single choice questions, 84 marks were from 21 multiple right choice questions, and 45 marks were from 15 single digit integer type questions
Paper 2
Paper 2 was generally simple, compared to the last year’s papers. It was additionally less demanding than Paper 1. The paper contained a blend of multiple choice, single choice and comprehensive answer questions
- 7 questions had just one correct option, 7 questions had multiple correct answers and 4 were comprehension type questions
- Chemistry was the most difficult in Paper 2
- Mathematics was the easiest in Paper 2, while Physics seemed moderate
- The paper was justified regardless of a sum of 183 marks. Further, 63 marks were from 21 single choice questions, 84 marks were from 21 multiple right choice questions, and 36 marks were from 12 passage type questions.
Analyzing Physics:
Amongst the three subjects, Physics seemed to be on the verge of moderate to tough
- Amongst the 18 questions in Paper 1, class XI and XII Physics received equal weightage.
- Amongst the 18 questions in Paper 2, 8 questions came from class XI syllabus, while 10 questions were from class XII syllabus
- Percentage Marks Distribution, XI:XII::47:53
- Electrodynamics received the maximum questions, while Mechanics followed close on heels. Together they covered about 65% of the papers. Wherein the most weightage was taken by questions on Electromagnetic Field and Rigid Body Dynamics respectively.
Analyzing Chemistry
The difficulty level of Chemistry paper seemed to be the most, amongst all three subjects. Both Paper 1 and 2 were on the difficult side.
- Amongst the 18 questions in Paper 1, there were 9 questions each from class XI and XII.
- Amongst the 18 questions in Paper 2, 5 questions came from class XI syllabus, while 13 questions were from class XII syllabus.
- Percentage Marks Distribution, XI:XII::39:61
- Paper 2 required detailed length calculations
- Organic Chemistry-II received the maximum questions, while Inorganic Chemistry-I seemed to be the second choice. They were closely followed by Physical Chemistry –II. Together they covered about 70% of the papers. Wherein the most weightage was taken by topics like Alkyl Halide, Alcohol & Ether Reaction mechanisms, Atomic Structure & Nuclear Chemistry respectively.
Students who aspire to appear for JEE 2018, can focus more on these avenues during their IIT JEE preparation.
Analyzing Mathematics
The level of paper in math was anything but difficult. In contrast with previous years’ papers it seemed pretty simple.
- Amongst the 18 questions in Paper 1, there were 9 questions each from class XI and XII.
- Amongst the 18 questions in Paper 2, 5 questions came from class XI syllabus, while 13 questions were from class XII syllabus.
- Percentage Marks Distribution, XI:XII::38:62
- Paper 2 of Mathematics was the easiest
- Differential Calculus received the maximum questions, while Integral Calculus seemed to be the second choice, closely followed by Coordinate Geometry. Together these three areas covered about 54% of the papers. Amongst these the most weightage was taken by topics like Limit, Continuity and Differentiability, Definite Integration and Conic Section respectively. Beyond them Matrices and Determinants was also seen to be an important topic.
