A patent is basically a document that helps to secure an inventor the exclusive right to make, sell, or else use their invention for a particular number of years. The document includes the conditions under which the government has approved the inventor complete ownership of the invention. It also excludes all others from using, making, or selling the invention within the United States. The patent also offers legal patent holders with definite lawful steps that can be taken to stop instances in which others have infringed on the patent.

Ron Blum explains the types of patents

The chief visionary officer and founder of PogoTec, Inc. and CEO, Chairman, and President of The Egg Factory, LLC (Egg Factory) Ron Blum say that inventors may apply for patents on inventions in three major groups such as design patents, utility patents, and plant patents. Among all of them, utility patents are the most common ones and are ideal for those who have discovered or invented any useful and new process, manufacture, the machine, or compositions of matter. The design patents are obtained for the look of a product, provided that it is an innovative and unique design. On the other hand, plant patents are granted to any individual who discovers or invents and asexually copies any distinctive and new range of product.

Being the discoverer or co-discoverer of more than 500 patents and patent applications across the world Dr. Blum has successfully assisted to develop IP technology portfolios and nine different products which have been licensed or sold to several global billion-dollar companies. He says that a patent is given in replace of the person revealing the invention to the public. He further added that in today’s digital world, it is of utmost necessity as without a patent any person can copy the invention and claim it to be theirs.

A patent offers exclusive rights to the product; as nobody else can make the same product; this helps the patent holder to gain a stronghold over the market and there is significantly no competition. Hence, the patent holder is the only player for the product in the market. In addition, as the person is the only one who will be handling with that product so it is quite obvious that they will get higher returns on the investment.
