Audi cars are regarded as a symbol of class, elegance, sportiness and luxury on Indian roads. Audi A3 was unveiled in the country at the 2014 Auto Expo, New Delhi and was later officially launched here in September 2014. It was launched at an unbelievable starting Audi A3 Price of Rs 22.95 lakhs. However the only one petrol variant costs Rs 28.95 lakhs and the top end diesel variant costs Rs 33 lakhs. At this price it is a strong contender to its rivals in this segment.
Audi A3 is relatively compact at a length of 4456 mm. Built on the VW Group’s flexible MQB platform; it gets a wide body and a low roofline which imparts that posh look to the car. The large grille, sharply cut headlamps, LED running lamps, a V shaped line on the bonnet,A6-like glasshouse, the bold belt line, the mildly flared wheel arches that house 16- or 17-inch wheels and the tapering tail-lamps and a pronounced lip atop the boot are other details that steal our attention.
The cabin is spacious and one cannot complain about quality inside an Audi car. The dashboard though simple looks elegant and the centre console and other knobs and buttons are beautifully laid out. The seats are electrically adjustable and offer good leg space and shoulder room. However the passengers at the rear may complain of the average headroom and small windows. The car offers a boot space of 425 litres.
The A3 is available in both, petrol and diesel, engine options. The petrol model of the car derives its power from a 1.8-litre TFSI motor that produces a maximum power output of 177bhp and a peak torque of 250Nm. On the other hand, the diesel model features a 2.0-litre TDI unit that churns out 141bhp and 320Nm. The diesel engine is claimed to return an impressive fuel economy of 20.38 kmpl, while the gasoline engine model returns 16.6 kmpl. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed and 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. The power delivery is smooth and the ride commendable.
Some of the key luxury features include 7 inch multimedia infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running lamps and ORVMs with turn indicators. Traction control, electronic stability control, brake assist, start/stop button, ABS and 6 front and side airbags are part of the A3’s safety features in addition to electronic differential lock that helps traction.
